our story
I am a Kansas kid with a love for the city…always been fascinated with tall buildings and crowded streets. (I went to school with 200 people in my entire high school, go figure.) I didn’t grow up going to church very often, but early in life I still sensed that God was calling me into a relationship with Him. I had no idea what that really meant. I do remember sitting in a couple of church services where I had to “white-knuckle” the seat or else I might have jumped through the roof when they asked if anyone wanted to “come to know Jesus personally.” Since those church visits were infrequent, my knuckles survived … but God kept calling. Ultimately, I was baptized as an 18 year-old but went to college with no foundation or Christian relationships so I led the college life…books, beer and babes. (can I write that on a church blog?) Still, underneath an exterior that appeared far from God, I knew I desperately needed Him. Gina and I were married in 1999 and both had been seeking God on our own and it only made sense that we we continue the journey together. Just a few months after we were married, we attended this little church in Lawrence, Kansas. It was in a small, dingy gymnasium that I finally gave in to God’s pursuit and Gina and I began our journey that has led us to this point. Three children, a big change of careers (I was a corporate lawyer before leaving that in 2004), a big move to Phoenix (2005), and “another” degree later (d.min. in 2009) here we are. We hope you join the ride.
