some opening statements:
our mission: day|twelve exists to help others discover and live life in Jesus Christ.
our movement: day|twelve will be a movement marked by faith and obedience to the voice and promises of God that we see in the scriptures, hear through prayer and experience in life.
our motivation: day|twelve will be known for its relentless love of God and people, its sacrificial service of others and its humble leadership in our world.
our motive: day|twelve will be about building the body of Christ, not day|twelve.
some things we will [be]:
love relentlessly: the foundation of the movement of Jesus Christ is love. [matthew 22:37] Love is a choice we make, not a feeling we have. Relentless love is super-natural.
serve sacrificially: Jesus lived a life of service so we will too. [matthew 20:28] We meet the needs of others first. Sacrifice is essential to the Christian life.
lead humbly: we lead humbly in our world as God calls us to make a difference. [1 peter 2:9] Leading humbly means giving your life to see others accomplish their dreams.
some words to describe us:
gospel-saturated: we understand that the gospel both saves and sanctifies us and that it must shape all we do.
wise in the scriptures: God’s word tells the true story of the world and it speaks to every aspect of life so we will grow in knowledge of, and obedience to, it.
restful: because Jesus alone saves, we don’t have to save ourselves. we cannot. therefore, we will find peace and rest in the truth of the gospel.
prayerful: rather than doing then praying, we will seek God’s direction in all we do before we do it.
incar-missional: we will live out the truth of the Gospel in all areas of our personal lives; we will serve in our homes, communities, businesses and schools so that the name of Jesus may be glorified and praised.
unified: we will not allow division to side-track the mission; further, we are one community of faith among millions that God is using to build His kingdom.
accountable: personally and corporately, we will not hide our struggles and by the grace of God we will grow in obedience and become more like Jesus.
generous: God freely gives to us so we freely give to others, especially to other believers.
courageous: God calls us on mission and cannot use us if we are paralyzed by fear; knowing that courage is the absence of self, we will follow Christ, regardless of personal cost.
counter-cultural: true life in Christ looks different than the life that this world tells us to live.
what we do (or at least hope to!):
gather in counter-cultural small groups: these groups will meet regularly to learn, study, pray and serve together; we will serve each other and our communities. each counter-cultural group will take on its own unique context but remain true to the mission of day|twelve.
serve the community at large together: we will regularly come together as a church body to serve our community on a broader basis. these service opportunities will be shaped by those who make up day|twelve.
serve our world through global initiatives: we will have a global outlook, making global missions and giving opportunities available to everyone.
worship together: we will gather regularly to: celebrate what God is doing in our lives and communities, worship through song and giving, receive communion to remember Christ’s gift of life to us, and learn from the scriptures.
overall, day|twelve endeavors to be less programatic and more organic when it comes to “what it will do.” we pray that the people who make up day|twelve will shape its ministry, allowing people to be released to do what God is calling them to do. day|twelve desires to be a community of people who are known in their worlds for the way they love, serve and lead those around them. this can only happen in an environment that supports, trains and empowers people and day|twelve endeavors to be that type of community.
